Legislative Assembly elections in Kerala 2026

The Legislative Assembly elections in Kerala were held on 9 April 2026 to elect 140 members of the Assembly. The election witnessed a strong voter turnout of 78.27%. The counting of votes took place on 4 May 2026, and the results marked a decisive victory for the United Democratic Front (UDF), signalling a shift in the state’s political landscape after a decade of Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule.

In the 140-member Assembly, the UDF secured 102 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark. Within the alliance, the Indian National Congress won 63 seats, while the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) secured 22 seats.

The LDF was reduced to 35 seats, with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) winning 26 seats and the Communist Party of India securing 8 seats, while its other allies made marginal gains.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 3 seats, showing a slight improvement in its presence compared to previous elections.
