Ministry of Rural Development Notifies 375 Permissible Works under VB–G RAM G

Why in News?

The Ministry of Rural Development has notified the Schedule of Permissible Works under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB–G RAM G] Act, 2025. The new framework provides for 375 permissible works, a 41% increase over the 266 works under the previous framework.

About the Schedule of Permissible Works

The new Schedule reorganises rural development works around four thematic pillars: Water Security, Core Rural Infrastructure, Livelihood-related Infrastructure, and Special Works for Extreme Weather Events and Disaster Preparedness.

  • Water Security: 128 works, covering water-related needs and resource management.
  • Core Rural Infrastructure: 111 works aimed at strengthening essential civic and community infrastructure in rural areas.
  • Livelihood-related Infrastructure: 98 works focused on supporting livelihoods and creating productive assets.
  • Extreme Weather Events and Disaster Preparedness: 38 works, introducing a dedicated category for disaster preparedness and extreme weather events.

A total of 181 works relate to agriculture and allied activities, including 52 individual-beneficiary works. These cover water, land, plantations, livestock and other productive assets that can directly support farmers.

Planning and Implementation

Works under VB–G RAM G will be planned through Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans, based on local needs and approved by the Gram Sabha. This approach aims to align rural employment-related works with village development priorities, strengthen infrastructure and support sustainable livelihoods.
