Mombasa Declaration adopted at the 11th Our Ocean Conference

Sixteen countries adopted the Mombasa Declaration at the 11th Our Ocean Conference.

The declaration aims to improve fisheries transparency and strengthen global efforts to combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.

It calls upon coastal States and flag States to enhance the collection, sharing, and public accessibility of fisheries and fishing vessel information.

The declaration supports the Global Charter for Fisheries Transparency, which outlines 10 low-cost or no-cost policy principles to improve transparency in fisheries governance.

It launches a global campaign encouraging more countries to join the initiative before the 2027 Our Ocean Conference.

The declaration seeks to protect coastal communities, small-scale fishers, and marine ecosystems by improving fisheries governance and reducing the impacts of IUU fishing.

Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing threatens livelihoods, food security, biodiversity, and the long-term sustainability of ocean resources.

Kenya hosted the 11th Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa on the vibrant Swahili Coast.
