Mount Elbrus

Mountaineer Kabak Yano from Arunachal Pradesh has achieved a major feat by successfully summiting Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia and Europe. The achievement, which occurred on August 16, 2025, at 5:20 am Russian time, was lauded by Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.).

About Mount Elbrus

  • Mount Elbrus is a dormant stratovolcano located in the Caucasus Mountains of southwestern Russia, near the Georgian border.
  • At 18,510 feet above sea level, it is the highest peak in Europe and also the highest volcano in Eurasia.
  • While not as technically demanding as some other peaks, the climb is considered a significant challenge due to its high altitude, unpredictable weather, and frigid temperatures, which can drop to as low as -20°C even during the summer climbing season.
