Former Law Minister Ram Jethmalani Passed Away

  • Noted lawyer and former Union Minister Ram Jethmalani passed away on September 8, 2019 in New Delhi.
  • He was 95. Jethmalani was a sitting Member of the Rajya Sabha.
  • Ram Boolchand Jethmalani was born in Sikharpur of Sindh province on September 14, 1923.
  • In 2010 Jethmalani was elected chairman of the Bar Association of India.
  • He became a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1988 and later went on to assume the role of Union Minister of Law, Justice and Company Affairs in 1996 in Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet.
  • During the second tenure of the Vajpayee government in 1998, Jethmalani was given the portfolio of Union Minister of Urban Affairs and Employment. Later, in 1999, he was again sworn in as the Union law minister.
  • He was elected a member of Parliament from BJP ticket from Mumbai.
  • He even contested against Vajpayee from the Lucknow constituency as an independent candidate in 2004.
