New Army chief unveils ‘VIJAY’ vision for a technology-driven future force

Dhiraj Seth assumed charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) on 1 July 2026, succeeding Upendra Dwivedi.

He unveiled a strategic vision titled “VIJAY” to transform the Indian Army into a technology-enabled, future-ready, and self-reliant force.

VIJAY: Strategic Vision

V – Vigilance and Readiness

  • Maintain constant vigilance along India’s borders.
  • Remain prepared to respond effectively to conventional and emerging security threats.
  • Sustain a high level of operational readiness.

I – Innovation and Transformation

  • Promote technological modernisation.
  • Adopt innovative doctrinal and operational concepts.
  • Integrate advanced technologies to enhance combat capability.

J – Jointness and Integration

  • Strengthen coordination and interoperability among the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy.
  • Improve joint planning, training, and conduct of integrated military operations.

A – Aatmanirbharta

  • Build a self-reliant Army by leveraging indigenous defence technologies and domestic defence manufacturing.
  • Promote the use of equipment developed under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Y – Yoddha First (Soldier First)

  • Place the welfare, capability, morale, and operational effectiveness of soldiers at the centre of all reforms.
  • Ensure better training, equipment, and support for personnel.
