NITI Aayog launches India S&T Scoreboard

Why in News?

NITI Aayog launched the India S&T Scoreboard in New Delhi on 3 November 2026. The interactive platform provides a comprehensive overview of the science and technology landscape across Indian States and Union Territories.

Objectives

• Promote evidence-based policymaking in science and technology.
• Enable performance comparisons among States and UTs.
• Identify gaps in research and innovation ecosystems.
• Strengthen India’s research, development and innovation capabilities.

Key Features

• Combines information on science and technology infrastructure, research publications, patents and innovation activities.
• Provides data on higher education institutions, R&D organisations, deep-tech startups and incubators.
• Covers research publications and patents.
• Evaluates research quality, impact, collaboration and open-access practices.
• Assesses performance across three major sectors: Academia, Government R&D laboratories and Industry.
• Priority Research Areas: Provides insights into research performance across identified priority areas.
