Why in News?
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized more than 362 metric tonnes of Pakistan-origin dry dates under Operation Deep Manifest. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted 13 containers that had arrived in India from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
About Operation Deep Manifest
Operation Deep Manifest is an enforcement initiative of the DRI to identify and intercept Pakistan-origin goods that are attempted to be imported into India through third-country routing.
In this case, the dry dates were initially shipped from Karachi Port, Pakistan, to Jebel Ali Port, UAE, before being routed towards India. The operation highlights the role of customs intelligence and supply-chain tracking in detecting attempts to conceal the true country of origin of imported goods.
