India on March 21 launched ‘Operation Indravati’ to evacuate its citizens stranded in war-torn Haiti amid the intense fighting between the armed groups and the government.

  • The violence between the armed groups and the government has impeded access to healthcare facilities, forced the closure of schools and worsened an already dire hunger crisis.
  • Aside from human-made catastrophes, Haiti still has not fully recovered from the devastating earthquake in 2010 that killed about 220,000 people and left 1.5 million homeless.
