Operation Urja Suraksha

The Indian Navy has launched Operation Urja Suraksha to ensure the safe passage of India-bound energy shipments through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, following its reported blockade by Iran.

The operation aims to escort, guide, and safeguard Indian-flagged vessels carrying essential energy supplies such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and crude oil. Officials stated that the mission is being conducted with calibrated precision and minimal publicity to ensure uninterrupted and secure maritime transit.

As part of the operation, the Navy has already successfully escorted LPG carriers Pine Gas and Jag Vasant, which together are transporting nearly 92,000 tonnes of cooking gas. These vessels are expected to reach Indian ports between March 26 and 27.

Additional ships that have been provided secure passage include LPG carriers Shivalik and Nanda Devi, along with crude oil tanker Jag Laadki.
