Why in News?

The All India Girls High Altitude Long Trek ‘Aparajita – Parang La 2026’, a flagship adventure activity of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), was flagged-in at Karzok, Ladakh, on 16 September 2026. The expedition involved 20 NCC girl cadets selected from across India, who successfully completed a nearly 250-km trek over 30 days from Kibber in Himachal Pradesh to Karzok in Ladakh.

About Parang La Trek

The expedition traversed the Parang La Pass at an altitude of about 5,578 metres, connecting the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh with the Changthang region of Ladakh. The route passed through challenging high-altitude landscapes, including glaciers, snowfields and river valleys, and was undertaken with the support of NCC officers, instructors, medical personnel and other support staff.

The trek was flagged off by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh from New Delhi on 18 August 2026. The Parang La route connects south-eastern Ladakh with Spiti and historically served as a traditional trade route between Spiti and Ladakh during the nineteenth century.

The expedition aims to promote adventure, endurance, leadership, discipline and self-confidence among NCC girl cadets, while providing them exposure to challenging Himalayan terrain.
