Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) Annual Report, 2025

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) Annual Report, 2025, providing key insights into employment and unemployment trends across the country.

The report, based on nationwide survey data, presents crucial labour market indicators such as Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Worker Population Ratio (WPR), and Unemployment Rate (UR), offering a comprehensive picture of workforce dynamics in India.

According to the report:

  • Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) refers to the percentage of people who are either working, seeking work, or available for work in the total population.
  • Worker Population Ratio (WPR) measures the proportion of employed persons in the population.
  • Unemployment Rate (UR) indicates the percentage of unemployed individuals among those in the labour force.

The survey also elaborates on activity status classifications, which are used to assess employment conditions over different time frames. The ‘Usual Status’ of a person is determined based on their activities over the preceding 365 days, reflecting their long-term employment situation.

Within this framework, the Principal Activity Status (PS) identifies the activity in which a person spent the majority of their time during the reference period, thereby determining their primary economic engagement.
