 U.S. President Donald Trump recently threatened to attack Pickaxe Mountain, a fortified underground facility linked to Iran’s nuclear programme.

About Pickaxe Mountain

Pickaxe Mountain is located approximately 220 km south of Tehran and around 2 km from the Natanz nuclear complex.

The facility is buried deep underground and is heavily fortified, making it a significant component of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

The nearby Natanz nuclear complex has housed two uranium-enrichment facilities and has been a major focus of international concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities.

The Natanz site was bombed during the war involving the United States and Israel, which began on February 28.

During the previous 12-day war, Iran’s nuclear facility outside Isfahan, located about 80 miles from Natanz, was also targeted.

According to the U.S.-based Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), the Pickaxe Mountain facility was not targeted in either of these conflicts.

The facility is linked to Iran’s broader nuclear programme, which has been a longstanding source of tensions between Iran and Western countries.

Iran has consistently denied that it is seeking to develop an atomic bomb.

According to the Institute for Science and International Security, construction of the Pickaxe Mountain facility began in 2020.

The construction reportedly followed an explosion at the Natanz facility, which Iranian authorities at the time described as resulting from an act of sabotage.
