PRASHAST Portal

Why in News?

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education, organised a nationwide screening of a 30-minute Sensitization and Orientation Module on Inclusive Education for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) through the PRASHAST Portal. The initiative aims to promote inclusive school environments by sensitising teachers, special educators and non-teaching staff to the needs of children with special needs.

About the Initiative

The module uses practical examples and interactive activities to help school personnel adopt appropriate and respectful practices. Available in 12 Indian languages, it is intended for school heads, teachers, special educators and non-teaching staff, including support workers, drivers, clerical staff, receptionists, deans and wardens.

The initiative follows a whole-school approach to inclusion, under which all members of the school community contribute to creating a safe, accessible and supportive learning environment for children with special needs.

About the PRASHAST Portal

PRASHAST is a school-based digital tool designed to identify children with probable disability conditions covered under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.

Its two-part checklist enables teachers to screen students using observable indicators. Special educators subsequently validate the cases and facilitate referrals for medical assessment wherever required.

The portal supports early identification of children who may need additional assistance, helping schools facilitate appropriate assessment, educational support and inclusive learning opportunities.
