Principal Scientific Adviser launches RSVC-AMRIT platform

Why in News?

The Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India launched the RSVC AMRIT platform on 15 August 2026, the 80th Independence Day, to strengthen technology-led rural development.

Developed by NABARD in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (OPSA), AMRIT will function as the digital backbone of the RuTAGe Smart Village Centre (RSVC) ecosystem, facilitating rural innovation, technology transfer and wider adoption of appropriate technologies.

Key Points

AMRIT is designed as a comprehensive digital ecosystem covering the entire lifecycle of rural technology interventions, from technology discovery and validation to deployment, tracking, collaboration, monitoring and knowledge management.

The RuTAGe Smart Village Centre (RSVC) facilitates the transfer of appropriate, affordable and locally relevant technologies from research institutions, innovators and startups to rural communities through village-level technology hubs.

The technology interventions cover areas such as agriculture, rural enterprises, renewable energy, education, assistive technologies, water and sanitation and citizen services.

About RuTAGe Smart Village Centre

The RSVC is a permanent Panchayat-level rural technology hub established under the aegis of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.

The initiative aims to integrate advanced technologies with local rural needs and improve the quality of life of rural communities through sustainable and affordable technological solutions.

The first RSVC was launched at Mandaura village in Sonipat, Haryana, in February 2025.

The centre is designed to maintain a long-term presence at the Panchayat level and provide technological handholding to approximately 15–20 villages over several years. This sustained engagement is intended to build trust among communities and facilitate the adoption of innovative technologies.

Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG)

The Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG) is an initiative of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, launched in 2004.

Its broad objective is to connect scientific and technological capabilities with grassroots rural requirements, enabling the adaptation and deployment of technologies that address local challenges.

The RuTAGe Smart Village Centre builds on this approach by creating a permanent institutional mechanism at the village/Panchayat level.
