QS World University Rankings 2027

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) retained its position as India’s highest-ranked university in the QS World University Rankings 2027, climbing five places to 118th globally, matching the highest-ever rank achieved by an Indian institution.

The rankings were released by QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

India recorded its strongest-ever presence, with 52 universities featured in the rankings, making it the fifth most represented higher education system globally.

Other leading Indian institutions included Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (134th), Indian Institute of Technology Madras (170th), Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (205th), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (221st) and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (335).

University of Delhi improved its global ranking to 322nd, while Jamia Millia Islamia secured the 686th position.

The QS World University Rankings 2027 assessed over 1,500 institutions across 106 countries and territories, reflecting increasing global competition in higher education.

Globally, Massachusetts Institute of Technology retained the 1st position, followed by Imperial College London and Stanford University.
