Rapid Support Forces, El Fasher & Al-Afadh

Amnesty International released its report titled ‘City Under Siege, Children Under Fire: Rapid Support Forces’ Crimes Against Humanity in North Darfur’ on July 1, 2026.

The report concludes that Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) committed “crimes against humanity and carried out ethnic cleansing” during its campaign to seize El Fasher in Sudan’s North Darfur state.

Sudan has been mired in a brutal war since April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, which has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions, according to the United Nations.

RSF has been accused by the UN of committing repeated massacres against Darfur’s non-Arab ethnic groups.

According to the UN’s migration agency, more than 3,500 people were displaced on a single day from one village alone, Wadi Fungo in the Um Baru locality of North Darfur.

Last year, the RSF seized the army’s last Darfur stronghold of El-Fasher in an assault a UN inquiry said bore the “hallmarks of genocide”, mainly targeting the city’s Zaghawa population.

The newly established Al-Afadh camp in Sudan hosts thousands of displaced Sudanese who fled the conflict in El-Fasher and other areas of North Darfur.
