Shaheed Veer Gundadhur Seva Dera Jan Suvidha Kendra

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 18 May inaugurated the Shaheed Veer Gundadhur Seva Dera Jan Suvidha Kendra in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, calling it a historic step in the transformation of the region after the decline of Naxalism.

Addressing a public gathering at Netanar village, the birthplace of tribal freedom fighter Veer Gundadhur, the Home Minister described the village as a “pilgrimage site” for every Indian due to its role in the historic Bhumkal Rebellion against British rule.

Bhumkal Rebellion

The Bhumkal Rebellion of 1910 was launched with the objective of establishing Muria rule in Bastar and safeguarding the region’s cultural identity. The movement was led by Diwan Lal Kalindra Singh and Queen Subran Kunwar. The uprising began with the closure of the Puspal Bazaar and later witnessed a 12-day siege of Jagdalpur.

HM Shah stated that the newly inaugurated public service centre represents Bastar’s transition from conflict and violence towards peace, governance, and development. He added that the Chhattisgarh government named the centre after Shaheed Veer Gundadhur to honour his contribution to the tribal freedom struggle and preserve the legacy of tribal resistance against colonial rule.
