Shere Thapa Martyrdom Day

Indian Army’s Spear Corps along with locals, commemorated ‘Shere Thapa Martyrdom Day’ on November 18, 2020 to pay solemn tribute to the gallant soldier for his unrivalled courage and supreme sacrifice while fighting enemy forces in Upper Subansiri District during 1962 War.

  • The brave soldier of 2nd Jammu & Kashmir Rifles is credited with saving Subansiri Valley in Arunachal Pradesh by holding off repeated Chinese assaults for over 72 hours, regardless of the danger to his life.
  • The Apatani, or Tanw, also known by Apa and Apa Tani, are a tribal group of people living in the Ziro valley in the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh in India.
