Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve (SBVCR)

The tableau of Arunachal Pradesh on the Bugun community reserve, themed ‘Viksit Bharat’, participated in the 75th Republic Day celebration at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on 26 January, 2024.

  • The tableau featured the Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve (SBVCR), which was set up in 2017 to protect the rich biodiversity and the traditional and cultural heritage of the area.
  • The SBVCR is home to many rare and endangered species, such as the Bugun Liocichla (Liocichla bugunorum) and the red panda (Ailurus fulgens), as well as various flora and fauna.
  • The Bugun liocichla is a small bird, about 22 cm long, that is found in Arunachal Pradesh. It was discovered in 2006, and first described as a new species by Dr Ramana Athreya.
  • This critically endangered bird is only found in a small part of Arunachal Pradesh. Its range is limited to an area of 44 square kilometres.
  • The bird is named after the Bugun tribe, in whose community forests it is found.
