The tableau of Arunachal Pradesh on the Bugun community reserve, themed ‘Viksit Bharat’, participated in the 75th Republic Day celebration at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on 26 January, 2024.
- The tableau featured the Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve (SBVCR), which was set up in 2017 to protect the rich biodiversity and the traditional and cultural heritage of the area.
- The SBVCR is home to many rare and endangered species, such as the Bugun Liocichla (Liocichla bugunorum) and the red panda (Ailurus fulgens), as well as various flora and fauna.
- The Bugun liocichla is a small bird, about 22 cm long, that is found in Arunachal Pradesh. It was discovered in 2006, and first described as a new species by Dr Ramana Athreya.
- This critically endangered bird is only found in a small part of Arunachal Pradesh. Its range is limited to an area of 44 square kilometres.
- The bird is named after the Bugun tribe, in whose community forests it is found.
