Soliga tribal Coffee in the process of premium tag

  • Coffee produced by the Soliga tribe of of Kodagu and Chikkamagaluru districts in Karnataka would get premium tag.
  • There coffees are produced through large plantations in the Biligirirangana Hills, commonly called BR Hills.
  • The Coffee Board and the Social Welfare Department of Karnataka have started a 2.05-crore project for branding of the coffee beans grown by the Soliga tribes.
  • If coffee are labelled with brand then it can sell at premium price which can benefit the local Soliga tribes. Such type of branding has helped the Araku valley tribal coffee which price shoot three times after getting premium tag.
