Strobilanthes reptans- A new flora discovered in Arunachal Pradesh

A new invasive plant species named Strobilanthes reptans has been discovered in Tipi in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district.

  • It is an invasive weed in the Indo-Pacific islands.
  • The floral species has been discovered by Jatindra Sarma, the Chief Conservator of Forests in southern Assam.
  • The study paper related to the discovery of Strobilanthes reptans has been published in the Rheedia-thejournal of the Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy.
  • The plant sported tubular white or pale violet flowers with darker veins from June to September, and yielded fruit from July to December.
