SUVIKALP & PRISM

Why in News?

The Coal Controller Organisation (CCO), under the Ministry of Coal, has developed SUVIKALP, an in-house Mine Repurposing Tool, to support scientific mine closure and the sustainable reuse of post-mining land. The tool received the SKOCH Gold Award 2026 on 26 September 2026 under the category “Digital Operational Efficiency – Data Driven Decision Making.”

About SUVIKALP

SUVIKALP assists stakeholders in identifying suitable projects for repurposing post-mining land through a structured, data-driven decision-making process.

Key features:

• Multi-criteria evaluation: Assesses projects using technical, environmental, social and economic criteria.
• Project ranking: Evaluates and ranks potential mine-repurposing projects to support informed decisions.
• Scientific mine closure: Supports planning for the sustainable reuse of land after mining operations.
• Decision-making support: Helps stakeholders identify suitable projects based on multiple considerations.

About PRISM

PRISM (Post-Mining Repurposing Implementation Strategy Model) helps stakeholders explore implementation pathways after identifying a suitable project through SUVIKALP.

It provides:

• Project concepts and implementation approaches.
• Case studies of relevant projects.
• Sample Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).
• Tender documents.
• Information about agencies working in similar sectors.
