Tamil Nadu urges Kerala to increase outflow from Siruvani dam

Recently, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote to his Kerala counterpart P. Vijayan requesting him to direct officials to maintain the storage of the Siruvani dam up to its full reservoir level (FRL) i.e. 878.50 m.

  • It will ensure uninterrupted water supply to the Coimbatore Corporation and other beneficiaries of the project.

About Siruvani dam

  • The Siruvani Dam and reservoir is located in the Kalladikodan hill ranges of Palakkad district.
  • The Siruvani Reservoir was built by the Kerala Government with the purpose of meeting the drinking water requirements of the city of Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu).
  • At the Siruvani Dam, one is greeted by two gateways on either side of the road across the dam and are typical of the Kerala and Tamil architectural styles.
