TRAWL Assemblies for T-72 and T-90 tanks

The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth approximately ₹975 crore with Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics India Private Limited for the procurement of TRAWL Assemblies for T-72 and T-90 tanks.

Enhancing Minefield Breaching Capability

The TRAWL Assembly, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is a critical system designed to enhance the minefield breaching capabilities of the Indian Army. It enables the creation of vehicle-safe lanes through minefields, including those containing anti-tank mines equipped with proximity magnetic fuses.

Boost to Operational Effectiveness

The induction of these systems will significantly improve the operational readiness and mobility of armoured units, allowing safer and faster movement of tanks in combat scenarios, thereby strengthening battlefield effectiveness.

Push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat

Classified under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, the procurement marks a major step towards strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing and aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Employment and MSME GrowthThe project is also expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment, particularly by boosting the MSME sector involved in component manufacturing, further contributing to domestic industrial growth.
