Unnikrishnan Nair appointed director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre

Unnikrishnan Nair S. has been appointed as the new director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram.

  • Mr. Nair succeeds S. Somanath who took over as Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), in January 2022.
  • Mr. Nair is heading the Human Space Flight Centre established by the ISRO in Bengaluru for the Gaganyaan programme. He will continue to hold the post until further orders.

About Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC)

  • Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) is the lead Centre of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under the Department of Space (DOS), Government of India.
  • The Centre is named in fond memory of Dr Vikram A Sarabhai, the great visionary and the father of Indian Space Programme.
  • VSSC pioneers in rocket research and launch vehicle projects of ISRO.
  • Ammonium Perchlorate Experimental Plant (APEP) at Aluva in Kerala and the ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU) at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala also form part of VSSC.
