Vishwa Sutra – Weaves of India for the World

The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), under the Ministry of Textiles, along with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), unveiled “Vishwa Sutra – Weaves of India for the World” at the Femina Miss India (61st edition) held in Bhubaneswar. 

About the Initiative

  • A designer collection integrating 30 distinct Indian handloom weaves, each representing a different state.
  • Each weave is reinterpreted using design inspirations from 30 different countries, blending global aesthetics with Indian traditions.
  • Aims to position Indian handlooms as globally relevant, contemporary, and design-forward.

The collection creatively fuses Indian textiles with global cultural elements:

  • Odisha Ikat with Greek-inspired silhouettes
  • Kanchipuram silk with Norwegian design lines
  • Muga silk with Egyptian motifs
  • Patola with Spanish influences
  • Banarasi with UAE-inspired ensembles
