Why in the News?
The Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the 27th edition of Women and Men in India 2025 at the National Deliberative Summit on “Data for Development” held in Bhubaneswar on 29 April 2026.

About the Report
The publication provides a comprehensive statistical overview of gender-related indicators across sectors such as health, education, employment, and decision-making, enabling evidence-based policymaking.

Key Findings

  • Sex Ratio at Birth: Improved from 904 (2017–19) to 917 (2021–23), indicating better survival of girl children.
  • Infant Mortality Rate (IMR): Declined steadily for both males and females between 2008 and 2023.
  • Education: Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education increased to 30.2 for females and 28.9 for males (2022–23).
  • Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR): Increased for both genders; rural female LFPR rose significantly from 37.5% to 45.9% (2022–2025).
  • Managerial Positions: Women saw a 102.54% increase in managerial roles (2017–2025), compared to 73.80% for men.

Significance
The report reflects positive trends in gender equality, including improved health outcomes, rising female participation in education and workforce, and greater representation in leadership roles. It supports India’s progress toward inclusive growth and gender empowerment.
