World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026

Why in News?

The World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026 was inaugurated in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on 15 September 2026 by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. Held from 15 to 18 September under the theme “Circular Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity”, the forum was organised in India for the first time in South Asia.

About World Circular Economy Forum

The WCEF 2026 brought together more than 3,600 stakeholders from 62 countries, including policymakers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers and academicians. Its exhibition featured 135 national and international exhibitors showcasing circular-economy solutions.

The forum was jointly organised by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, Government of Finland, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Pollution Control Board.

The World Circular Economy Forum is a global initiative of Finland and the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra that provides a platform for governments, businesses, researchers and other stakeholders to discuss practical solutions for accelerating the transition towards a circular economy.

The forum has been held since 2017 and has previously been hosted in different regions, including Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America and the Caribbean. Its earlier host countries include Rwanda, Japan, Belgium, Finland, the Netherlands, Canada and Brazil.
