Why in News?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, along with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other heads of state. The Games are being held from August 31 to September 6, 2026.

Key Points

World Nomad Games (WNG): A biennial international sporting and cultural event showcasing the traditional sports, culture and heritage of nomadic civilisations.
2026 host: Kyrgyzstan; events are being held in and around Bishkek.
Origin: The idea emerged from the Bishkek Declaration (2012) adopted by Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkey at the Summit of Heads of Turkic States.
First edition: Held in 2014 at Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, with athletes from 19 countries.
Traditional sports: Competitions are based on traditional games and skills associated with nomadic societies, including horseback sports, wrestling and archery.
Turkic peoples: Ethnic and linguistic groups distributed across Central, West, East and North Asia and parts of Europe.
Historically, many Turkic groups developed traditions of nomadic pastoralism, particularly across the Eurasian steppes.
