Anant Nag To Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024

Why in News?

Veteran actor Anant Nag has been selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024, the highest honour in Indian cinema. The award will be presented at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat, on 22 September 2026.

About Anant Nag

Born Anant Nagarkatte on 4 September 1948, Anant Nag is one of the prominent figures of Kannada cinema. Over his career, he has acted in more than 300 films, including over 250 Kannada films. His work also includes films in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam and English.

Some of his notable films include Minchina Ota, Hamsageethe, Ankur and Manthan. He has also appeared on television, including the popular Doordarshan series Malgudi Days, based on the stories of renowned author R.K. Narayan.

Anant Nag has received five Karnataka State Film Awards during his career. In 2025, he was conferred the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award.
