Andhra CM approves India’s first dedicated Quantum, AI university campus in Amaravati

Why in News?
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the establishment of India’s first dedicated Quantum and AI University campus by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) at Amaravati.

Key Points:

• NIELIT functions under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
• The campus will be established on 8.5 acres with a proposed investment of ₹730.7 crore over five years.
• The project is proposed to be fully funded through MeitY grant-in-aid.
• It will focus on emerging deep-tech areas such as Quantum Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductors, other advanced technologies.
• The campus will integrate education, research, skilling, innovation and entrepreneurship.
• Academic and advanced technology skill-development programmes are scheduled to begin from September 2026 at a temporary facility at Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur.
• The permanent campus will offer UG, PG, doctoral, diploma and executive programmes in areas including: Quantum Computing, Quantum Communication and Security, AI and Machine Learning, Data Science, Semiconductor Fabrication, Chip Design and VLSI, ATMP (Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging), Embedded Systems, High-Performance Computing.
• The initiative aims to strengthen India’s deep-tech ecosystem, skilled workforce and technological self-reliance.
