ASI notifies Gollala Gudi Temple as monument of national importance

Why in News?

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has notified the Gollala Gudi Temple at Palampet, Mulugu district, Telangana, as a Monument of National Importance.

The temple is located near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ramappa Temple and is noted for its intricate carvings and architectural heritage.

Key Features

• Location: Palampet, Mulugu district, Telangana.
• Architectural type: Trikutalaya — a temple having three sanctums (garbhagrihas).
• It consists of an east-facing mandapa surrounded by three garbhagrihas.
• The temple is located close to the famous Ramappa Temple, also known as the Rudreswara Temple.
• Its exquisite carvings reflect the rich architectural tradition of the Kakatiya period.

Monument of National Importance

A monument/site can be declared a Monument of National Importance under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act, 1958.
