Assam’s Nameri Tiger Reserve Receives CA|TS Approved Status

Why in News?

Nameri Tiger Reserve in Assam has received CA|TS Approved status under the Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards (CA|TS) framework after meeting the prescribed standards for tiger conservation and protected area management. With this recognition, all four tiger reserves in Assam—Kaziranga, Manas, Orang and Nameri—now have CA|TS Approved status.

About Nameri Tiger Reserve

Nameri National Park and Tiger Reserve is located in the northern part of Sonitpur district, Assam, covering a total area of 464 sq km, including a core area of 200 sq km. It is an important protected area for tiger conservation and forest management.

About CA|TS

Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards (CA|TS) is a globally recognised framework for assessing the effectiveness of tiger reserve management. It evaluates aspects such as wildlife protection, habitat management, monitoring, administration and community participation.

Developed through collaboration among tiger-range countries and international conservation partners, CA|TS establishes minimum standards to ensure that protected areas meet the ecological, biological and management requirements needed to sustain viable tiger populations.
