CapaCITIES project

The event “Scaling Urban Climate Resilience: The CapaCITIES Legacy and Way Forward” was held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on 14 July 2026 to mark a decade of progress under the CapaCITIES Programme.

  • The event was jointly organised by ICLEI South Asia and the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA).

About the CapaCITIES Programme

  • CapaCITIES (Capacity Building Project on Low Carbon and Climate Resilient City Development in India) was launched in 2016.
  • The programme is funded by the Embassy of Switzerland to India and Bhutan.
  • It aims to strengthen the capacity of Indian cities to integrate low-carbon and climate-resilient development into urban planning and governance.
  • The programme supports India’s Net Zero emissions target by 2070 by aligning local climate action with national and state-level climate goals.

Implementation

  • The programme is implemented by ICLEI South Asia, South Pole, and econcept, with the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) serving as the knowledge partner.
