DAC approves capital acquisition proposals worth Rs 52,000 crore

The Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Rajnath Singh, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to defence procurement proposals worth approximately ₹52,000 crore on 3 July 2026.

  • Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) is the in-principle administrative approval for the procurement of defence equipment under India’s defence acquisition process.

Indian Army

The DAC approved procurement of:

  • AKASH TARANG – An Anti-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Electronic Warfare System to protect Army formations against hostile drones.
  • Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) – An indigenously developed anti-tank missile to enhance infantry capability against armoured threats.
  • Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) Weapon System – Provides medium-range air defence against multiple aerial threats.
  • Very Short Range Air Defence System (V-SHORADS) – A portable air defence missile system with multi-spectral sensing for improved resistance to countermeasures.
  • Active Protection System (APS) – Enhances tank survivability by detecting and neutralising incoming anti-tank threats.
  • Jet-Based Kamikaze Drone System – Loitering munitions with enhanced electronic warfare capability, greater lethality, and cost-effectiveness.

Indian Navy

The DAC approved procurement of:

  • Multi Influence Ground Mine (MIGM).
  • Naval Shipborne Unmanned Aerial System (NSUAS).
  • Establishment of a Land Based Testing Facility (LBTF) for Electric Propulsion Systems.

Indian Air Force

The DAC approved procurement of:

  • Fixed-Wing High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (FW-HAPS).
  • Other defence capability enhancement proposals.
  • FW-HAPS will provide persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), telecommunications, and remote sensing capabilities by operating at very high altitudes for extended durations.
