‘Pashujanya Yudh Abhyas (PYA)’

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Under the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, conducted Pashujanya Yudh Abhyas (PYA), the third national-level mock drill under the National One Health Mission.

  • The exercise was held from 29 June to 3 July 2026 at Khari Village.
  • PYA was organised to test and validate India’s preparedness, coordination mechanisms, and emergency response capabilities for managing zoonotic disease outbreaks.
  • The mock drill was based on the One Health approach, bringing together stakeholders from the animal health, human health, wildlife, food safety, laboratory, and district administration sectors.
  • The exercise evaluated operational preparedness, inter-sectoral coordination, communication systems, and outbreak response mechanisms, covering the entire chain from first detection to containment.
  • The simulated scenario involved an outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1) in animals with the potential to spill over to humans and wildlife.

One Health Approach

  • The One Health approach recognises that the health of humans, animals, and the environment is interconnected.
  • It promotes coordinated action across sectors to prevent, detect, and respond to zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and other public health threats.
