Exercise Mountain Guardian 2026

Why in News?

The India-UAE Joint Military Exercise Mountain Guardian 2026 commenced on 5 October 2026 at the Foreign Training Node in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand. The exercise is being conducted from 5 to 18 October 2026 to enhance interoperability, mutual understanding and cooperation between the Indian and UAE armies, with a particular focus on mountain warfare.

About Mountain Guardian 2026

The two-week exercise involves 92 personnel, with equal representation from both armies. The Indian Army contingent comprises troops from a Bhairav Battalion, while the UAE Army contingent includes personnel from a Mountain Infantry Battalion. Women officers and combatants from both armies are also participating in various specialist roles.

The exercise includes joint planning, tactical drills, firing practices, establishment of surveillance grids, drone operations and physical endurance training. The exercise aims to facilitate the exchange of operational experiences and enhance the ability of the two armies to conduct coordinated operations in challenging mountainous terrain.
