FITE Pune-India’s first registered IT trade union

  • Whenever we think about trade union in India, we tend to imagine the plight of factory workers. But now IT sector, which represents highly skilled and highly educated employees, has also a trade union for its Indian employees.
  • In December 2017, THE PUNE chapter of the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) became the first officially registered trade union for the IT sector in India. It was registered as a trade union by the Maharashtra State Labour Commissioner office.
  • FITE was originally formed in Bengaluru, to fight the layoffs in IT sector. This Forum later set up chapters (or branches) in other IT hubs of India. like Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad.
  • This forum also helps affected employees file cases under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.
  • The FITE is also planning to set up a national federation.
