Global Forest Goals Report 2026

The United Nations launched the Global Forest Goals Report 2026 during the 21st session of the United Nations Forum on Forests, urging countries to keep forests at the centre of policy and investment decisions.

The report assesses global progress towards the United Nations Strategic Plan for Forests 2017–2030 and its six Global Forest Goals, based on reports from 48 countries covering 51 per cent of the world’s forest area.

It noted that global forest area declined by over 40 million hectares between 2015 and 2025 and that financing for sustainable forest management remains inadequate, although countries are increasing restoration efforts, improving forest governance and strengthening international cooperation.
