Justice N.V. Ramana will be the 48th Chief Justice of India

Chief Justice of India Sharad A. Bobde has recommended Justice N.V. Ramana, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, as the next Chief Justice.

  • He will take over as the 48th Chief Justice of India from April 24, 2021.
  • The Supreme Court also issued a short statement on March 24, 2021, informing that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s October 6, 2020 complaint to the CJI naming Justice Ramana was dismissed under an in-house procedure after due consideration.
  • Justice Ramana was born in an agriculture family in Ponnavaram village in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.
