Jyoti-Jyot Diwas

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, paid heartfelt tributes to Guru Hargobind Sahib on the occasion of his Jyoti-Jyot Diwas, commemorating the Guru’s spiritual legacy and contributions to Sikhism.

Born in 1595 in present-day Punjab, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji succeeded Guru Arjan Dev at a young age. He introduced the profound concept of Miri-Piri, symbolised by two swords representing the balance between temporal power and spiritual authority.

Under his leadership, Sikhism underwent a significant transformation, incorporating the ideal of the ‘Saint-Soldier’, which emphasized both spiritual devotion and the duty to resist injustice. This marked a pivotal shift in strengthening the community’s resilience and commitment to protecting righteousness.

Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji also founded the Akal Takht in 1609 at Amritsar, which remains one of the highest temporal seats of authority in Sikhism.
