Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved an investment of ₹14,105.83 crore for the 1,200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project on the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh.

The project will consist of six units of 190 MW each and one unit of 60 MW, with an expected annual generation of 4,852.95 million units, and is scheduled to be completed within 78 months.

It will be the first major hydropower project in the Lohit Basin and is expected to strengthen power supply, support peak demand management, and help balance the national grid.

Arunachal Pradesh will receive 12% free power from the project along with an additional 1% for the Local Area Development Fund, while also benefiting from improved infrastructure and socio-economic development.

The CCEA has also approved an investment of ₹26,069.50 crore for the Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Kamle, Kra Daadi, and Kurung Kumey districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

This project will be implemented through a joint venture between NHPC and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
