KAZIND-2026

 Why in News?

The ninth edition of the India–Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2026 is being conducted from 28 September to 11 October 2026 in Oskemen, Kazakhstan. A 60-member Indian Armed Forces contingent, mainly comprising personnel from a battalion of the GARHWAL RIFLES, along with troops from other arms and services and Indian Air Force personnel, is participating in the exercise.

About KAZIND-2026

The exercise aims to enhance interoperability and joint operational capabilities of the Indian and Kazakhstan Armed Forces for conducting joint counter-terrorism operations in a sub-conventional environment under a United Nations mandate. The Kazakhstan Armed Forces are participating with a contingent of similar strength, primarily drawn from their Land Forces.

KAZIND-2026 focuses on counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain. Key areas of training include joint planning and execution, air mobility, and the integrated employment of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter-UAS capabilities.
