Largest Dhimsa dance recognised by Guinness World Records

Why in News?
A performance by more than 13,000 tribal women and girl students at the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, Bhogapuram (Andhra Pradesh) on 31 July 2026 was recognised by Guinness World Records as the “Largest Dhimsa Dance” performance.

About Dhimsa Dance

• Dhimsa is a traditional tribal folk dance of the Araku Valley in Alluri Sitarama Raju district (formerly part of Visakhapatnam district), Andhra Pradesh.
• It is an important cultural expression of the tribal communities of the Eastern Ghats, particularly the Valmiki, Bagata, Kondadora, Gadaba, Jatapu and other hill tribes.
• The dance is generally performed by groups of 15–20 women wearing traditional colourful sarees and tribal ornaments.
• Dancers move in synchronised circular formations, symbolising unity, harmony and community life.
• The performance is accompanied by traditional musical instruments played by men, including:
  • Mori (wind instrument)
  • Thudum (drum)
  • Dappu (percussion instrument)
