Ministry of Panchayati Raj Launches DAANVEER Initiative

The Secretary, Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, launched DAANVEER, a citizen participation initiative aimed at strengthening the digital infrastructure of Gram Panchayats across India.

  • DAANVEER is designed not only to address the immediate shortage of computers in Gram Panchayats but also to evolve into a long-term, citizen-powered ecosystem for strengthening local governance institutions.
  • It is a transparent, end-to-end digital and verifiable platform that enables citizens, institutions and organisations to contribute towards the technology and infrastructure needs of Gram Panchayats.
  • The initiative institutionalises the spirit of voluntarism by providing a structured, accountable and seamless mechanism for supporting grassroots digital infrastructure.

Implementation

  • DAANVEER is an initiative of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
  • It has been developed in collaboration with:
    • National Informatics Centre (NIC)
    • DigiHaat
  • Participation under the initiative is entirely voluntary.

Key Features

  • DAANVEER is available through the Meri Panchayat mobile application.
  • The platform enables individuals and organisations to donate standardised and quality-verified computer bundles directly to eligible Gram Panchayats.
  • It integrates the Meri Panchayat App with the DigiHaat marketplace.
  • Donors can select pre-approved computer bundles that are mapped to State-specific technical specifications, ensuring uniformity and quality.

Significance

  • India has nearly 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats, which constitute the foundation of grassroots democracy and local service delivery.
  • DAANVEER seeks to bridge the digital infrastructure gap at the Panchayat level, thereby improving governance and citizen service delivery.
  • The initiative builds upon the Ministry’s existing digital governance ecosystem, which includes:
    • e-GramSwaraj
    • Meri Panchayat
    • Sabha Saar
    • AuditOnline
    • Gram Manchitra
    • Other digital governance platforms
  • The initiative aims to ensure that every Gram Panchayat is equipped with the necessary digital infrastructure to deliver efficient, transparent and citizen-centric public services.
