National Coastal Mission (NCM) 2.0

Why in News?

Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav launched the Guidelines for implementation of the National Coastal Mission (NCM) 2.0 in New Delhi. The mission aims to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of India’s coastal regions and unlock the potential of the blue economy.

About NCM 2.0

The National Coastal Mission 2.0 is a Central Sector Scheme with an approved outlay of ₹767 crore. It will be implemented up to 2030–31 across nine coastal States and four Union Territories.

The mission focuses on strengthening coastal resilience through vulnerability assessments, ecosystem restoration, pollution management, biodiversity conservation, sustainable tourism, spatial planning, research and capacity building.

NCM 2.0 also seeks to promote ease of doing business through a clear and streamlined implementation framework while supporting sustainable development and conservation of India’s coastal ecosystems.
