Negev Nuclear Research Center

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stated that it is aware of reports of a missile-related incident in Dimona, but no damage has been indicated to the nearby nuclear research facility.

The facility in question, the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center, is located in the Negev desert and is often referred to as the “Dimona reactor.” The IAEA clarified that it has not received any information suggesting harm to the site following the reported impact.

The Dimona facility has long been associated with Israel’s undeclared nuclear programme, widely believed by analysts to house components of its nuclear weapons capability, although Israel maintains a policy of nuclear ambiguity.

Geographically, the Negev is an arid region covering nearly 60% of Israel’s territory (within pre-1967 boundaries). It is bordered by the Sinai Peninsula to the west and the Jordan Valley to the east, making it strategically significant.
