Why in News?
In September 2026, Chile’s Nevados de Chillán volcano experienced an eruptive pulse, sending ash and volcanic material about 380 metres above the crater. Authorities reported no major impacts, while the volcano remained under a Yellow Technical Alert.
About Nevados de Chillán
Nevados de Chillán is an active volcanic complex located in the Diguillín and Punilla provinces of Chile. It forms part of the Andes mountain system.
The volcano is situated in one of the volcanically active regions of the Andes, where volcanic activity is associated with the subduction of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate.
