PM Modi Inaugurates 594-km long Greenfield Ganga Expressway in Hardoi

Why in the News?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ganga Expressway on 29 April 2026 in Hardoi.

About Ganga Expressway
It is a 594-km-long, 6-lane (expandable to 8 lanes), access-controlled greenfield expressway built at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore. It connects key regions of Uttar Pradesh, linking western, central, and eastern parts through a high-speed corridor.

Route and Coverage
The expressway passes through 12 districts—Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj—ensuring seamless connectivity across the state.

Key Features

  • Access-controlled high-speed corridor reducing travel time from Meerut to Prayagraj from 10–12 hours to about 6 hours.
  • Provision of a 3.5 km-long emergency airstrip in Shahjahanpur for aircraft landing during emergencies.
  • Designed to support future expansion up to 8 lanes.

Economic Significance
The expressway is envisioned as a major economic corridor with Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Hubs spread over about 2,635 hectares along its route. It is expected to reduce logistics costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and boost industrial growth and competitiveness.

Strategic Importance
The inclusion of an emergency landing facility enhances defence preparedness and provides dual-use infrastructure for both civilian and military purposes.
